Balance

Balance is a 3 inch kalabash bowl turned from box elder burl harvested in the Avenues neighborhood of Salt Lake City. Though small in scale, the piece carries an incredible amount of movement and complexity within the burl, with swirling grain, natural figuring, and subtle shifts in color that make every angle feel different from the last.

The rounded kalabash form gives the bowl a quiet sense of softness and stability, allowing the wild character of the burl to feel grounded rather than chaotic. Finished to a smooth glow, Balance is meant to feel intimate in the hand, like an object that invites pause and attention. The piece reflects the idea that balance is not the absence of tension, but the ability for opposing qualities to exist together in harmony.
