Cortez

Cortez is a 7" walnut bowl shaped from crotch-figured wood, revealing a dramatic feathered grain where the tree once divided and grew in separate directions. The figure radiates through the form in layered, sweeping patterns that shift with the light and give the surface a sense of movement. Natural fissures within the walnut are filled with kintsugi-inspired brass, creating a warm metallic contrast against the deep tones of the wood. Rather than concealing these imperfections, the brass highlights them as part of the tree’s history and the character of the piece. The result is a small, grounded form that celebrates growth, fracture, and the beauty found where the two meet.
