Delicate Box Elder Bowl

This 17" x 5" Box Elder bowl was turned while still green to an exceptionally thin wall averaging just 1/8" or less. As the timber dried, it was allowed to warp naturally, creating an organic form that could never be precisely replicated. A large bark inclusion, natural spalting, and figure move throughout the wood, preserving the unpredictable character of the original timber. Three feet were carefully carved into the base, elevating the bowl and accentuating the lightness and delicacy of its thin form. Finished with multiple coats of Danish wiping oil, the combination of natural movement, intricate grain, and hand-carved details makes this piece truly one of a kind.
