Eclipse

Eclipse is a Salt Lake sourced ash bowl finished using the Japanese technique of shou sugi ban, where fire is used to transform the surface of the wood and reveal the texture hidden beneath it. The burning process darkened the ash while still allowing flashes of chatoyancy to move through the grain, giving the piece a shifting depth beneath its charred surface. Eclipse is ~6 inches in diameter. 

This bowl comes from the same tree as A Burn Below and feels like its little brother in both scale and spirit. Where A Burn Below feels intense and consuming, Eclipse carries a quieter energy, like the moment just before or after the fire. Finished with a food safe Danish oil, the bowl holds a soft sheen that contrasts beautifully against the burned texture and highlights the natural movement still alive within the wood.
