Harmony

Harmony is an 8 inch cherry bowl sourced from the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City and turned as part of the Icarus series. The bowl was shaped impossibly thin, allowing light to pass through the upper edges of the form and reveal the warmth hidden within the wood itself. When held near light, the cherry begins to glow softly, giving the piece an almost weightless presence.

After turning, the bowl was soaked in Danish oil for weeks, allowing the oil to fully penetrate the fibers of the wood and create a soft, warm glow throughout the piece. This process deepened the translucency and brought out the subtle movement within the grain without losing the natural feel of the cherry.

The Icarus series is rooted in the idea of pushing wood to its physical limits while still preserving its strength and beauty. Harmony reflects that balance through its quiet form and delicate translucency. The result is a piece that feels both fragile and grounded at the same time.
