i. is a 14 inch bowl turned from highly figured curly maple sourced from a grove of trees harvested near Sacramento. The wood carries an incredible amount of chatoyancy, causing the surface to shift and shimmer as light moves across it. The figure moves so deeply through the grain that the piece almost feels like it exists in a fourth dimension, changing constantly depending on where you stand and how the light hits it.

The bowl was carefully polished to a soft glow and finished with a food safe Danish oil that deepens the natural warmth of the maple without hiding its character. There is a quiet energy to this piece that comes from the material itself, shaped by the shared history of the grove it came from and preserved through the making of the bowl.
