Kiva is a 9" boxelder burl bowl inspired by the ancient structures found throughout the canyon landscapes of southern Utah. The burl’s swirling grain, natural voids, and irregular figure give the piece an aged, weathered character shaped by the unpredictable growth of the tree. Kintsugi-inspired brass fills select fissures and imperfections, creating bright lines that move through the wood like traces of something preserved through time. The grounded form and intricate surface draw from the quiet presence of ancient structures tucked into the sandstone walls and alcoves of the desert. Kiva is a reflection on material, repair, and the lasting marks left behind by both nature and time.
