Remnant is an 11.5" elm burl bowl shaped around the irregular growth and natural imperfections of the tree it came from. Numerous voids, fissures, and openings move through the piece, leaving parts of the burl exposed and giving the bowl a sense of age and quiet fragility. Rather than filling or hiding these imperfections, they have been preserved as evidence of the life the wood lived before it ever entered the shop. The grain shifts dramatically across the surface, revealing the unpredictable character that makes burl wood so special. Remnant is a reminder that beauty is often found in what remains, not in what has been made perfect.
