The Laura

This is the largest bowl I have made to date, turned from a massive piece of red leaf maple. At this scale, the grain has room to move across the entire form, revealing changes in color, figure, and character that would be lost in a smaller piece. The bowl was shaped to keep the form simple and let the size and natural beauty of the maple speak for themselves. Turning a piece this large required patience at every stage, from working with the weight of the wood to slowly refining the final shape. More than anything, this bowl represents a milestone in my work and a chance to see just how far a single piece of wood can be pushed.

This bowl is best for storing things or serving large groups of people. At 12" deep, this bowl can contain a lot.
