A prominent bark inclusion winds across the surface in a shape remarkably reminiscent of a seahorse. The surrounding spalting creates dark, wandering lines that contrast against the warm tones and shifting figure of the Box Elder. Viewed from different angles, the piece continually reveals new patterns and evidence of the tree’s natural growth. Finished with multiple coats of Danish wiping oil, the surface has a soft warmth that brings depth and clarity to the wood’s remarkable character.
