The Strata

Each Strata bowl is made to order with a 4 week lead time.

Strata is a 17″ bowl made from Baltic birch, built from many thin layers of wood that are laminated together before being turned. As the bowl takes shape, each layer is cut at a slightly different angle, revealing a pattern of lines that moves across the surface. The repetition gives the piece an almost topographic quality, with each line recording another layer of material beneath it. Its simple form lets the construction of the bowl become the main visual detail rather than something that is hidden. Turned, sanded, and finished by hand, Strata explores how an ordinary sheet material can become something sculptural through layering and process.
