Made from a highly figured maple burl, Thorn keeps the raw character of the tree fully intact. The sharp natural spikes around the rim are not carved or altered, but a rare feature formed naturally as the burl grew. Each point and contour gives the bowl a rugged, sculptural presence while the swirling maple grain brings warmth and movement throughout the piece.

The natural voids within the burl were repaired using brass in the tradition of kintsugi, allowing the imperfections of the wood to become part of the story rather than something hidden away. The bowl was carefully sanded to 800 grit for a smooth, soft finish and sealed with two coats of Danish oil to deepen the figure and bring out the natural glow of the maple. Thorn is a balance of refinement and chaos, shaped as much by time and imperfection as it was by hand.
