This 13″ bowl is turned from a highly figured piece of black walnut taken from the crotch of a tree, where two large limbs once grew apart. That intersection creates the distinctive feathered grain that spreads across the bowl in layers of dark, flowing lines. The form is kept simple to let the natural figure, color, and movement of the walnut remain the focus. As the light moves across the surface, the feathered grain shifts in depth and reveals details that are easy to miss at first glance. Turned, sanded, and finished by hand, the bowl preserves a unique part of the tree that took decades to form.
