Within / Without is a 7 inch bowl turned from highly figured hard maple sourced from California. The wood carries an incredible depth within the grain, with flowing figure and shifting patterns that reveal themselves differently as light moves across the surface. There is a quiet tension in the piece between what is immediately visible and what only appears with time and attention.

Finished with Danish oil, the maple was brought to a warm, natural glow that enhances the movement and softness already present within the wood. The smooth form and subtle figuring give the bowl a calm presence, while the depth within the grain creates a feeling that there is always something more beneath the surface. Within / Without reflects the idea that what we carry internally often shapes what the world sees externally, even when those things are not immediately obvious.
